Dates

Every Tuesday night from early May through the end of August (14 weeks). Priority sign-up based upon prior year’s team participants-in-full. Individuals who sign up to play seeking a partner are assigned by the Pro Shop, or sign up with another prior year participant but were not a team, will have secondary priority. See priority criteria in the rules section of this book. ALL DECISIONS MADE BY THE PRO SHOP ARE FINAL.

Eligibility

All Full Play A & B Members and Limited Play Members. A Non-Resident or Social member can be an Alternate.

Format

Four-ball match play (two-man teams). Matches will be nine holes and played from the white tees. If a member has an established handicap from the gold tees, he can play from those markers during matches.

Scoring

Each hole is worth 1 point. For each hole a win is worth 1 point, a tie is worth ½ point, a loss is worth 0. When each team’s final score is added together the total should be 9. Any team that forfeits a match will receive 0 points; the team they were scheduled to play will receive 5. Matches will be played with each member using 50% of computer handicap. The lowest handicap in the group would then give strokes accordingly.

Substitutes or Alternates

Each team may have a third member who can act as a substitute without penalty if one of the primary team members cannot make the match. A team in need of a substitute that does not have a third team member, can use any male member of Walpole CC so long as he is not already one of the primary team members of another Sundowners team in the same flight and has a handicap established in the WCC system. However, that substitute must play at a handicap two shots less than his computer handicap.

At least one member of the two or three-person team must be present for a match to be played, i.e., a team cannot be represented by two substitutes. An Affiliated Junior Member over the age of 18 is eligible to play as an alternate.

Scheduling Matches

A complete schedule of matches and dates, as well as a list of both home and business phone numbers for all Sundowners members can be found on the Sundowners portal on Golf Genius.

A member of each team should reach out to the team they are scheduled to play and decide on a time to meet on Tuesday. If for any reason you and your partner cannot make it on Tuesday, you must contact the opposing team and let them know you will not be there. Matches not played on the scheduled day can be made up if the arrangement is made prior. Matches scheduled in the first half of the season must be made up before the halfway point. The Pro Shop will set the date each year when the second half matches must be made up. Teams from matches that are not made up will receive 3 points each.

Halfway Payouts

The season is split into two halves. For a 14-match season the first 7 matches that are played will represent the 1st half. A match originally scheduled for the 1st half that is played after the first 7 matches has been posted with be part of the 2nd half. There will be payouts in each Flight for the highest score total for each half.

Playoffs

Following the final regular season match, the top teams in each flight will qualify for the playoffs. Flights with 11 or fewer teams will have two teams advance to the playoffs. Flights with 12 or more teams will have three teams advance. For flights with three teams advancing, the top team in the flight will have a bye in the first round and will face the winner of the 2nd & 3rd place team in the second round. The flight winners will playoff with the following schedule: A vs. C and B vs. D.
